Chelsea Reamy ’11 is a physician assistant at Prince William Dermatology in Gainesville, Virginia. A hub of activity, the practice gives Reamy the opportunity to practice medicine, while breaking up the day with numerous medical procedures.
“Nothing beats when a patient is so appreciative that they give you a hug or write you a letter of appreciation. I don’t think they realize how much it truly means to me when they do that. It’s amazing what transpires when you listen and empathize with your patients. They have often searched long and hard for someone to take the time to figure them out.”
During her time as a student, Reamy participated in a medical mission trip to Nicaragua. She recalls the trip as being incredible. “It reminded me that we are capable of helping more than just in our chosen place of work and really can do a great service on a global scale. My years at SU were filled with unforgettable people and experiences and I left with lifelong friends that are more like family.”
Reamy’s advice to students is to, “take school one day at a time and when you get out there, treat every patient as if they are a member of your own family. Every. Single. Patient.”
